Dominica is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea, the northernmost of the Windward Islands. The size of the country is about 754 square kilometres. In Latin Dominica means “Sunday” and Sunday was the day on which the island was discovered by Christopher Columbus.
Dominica is most covered by rainforest and is home to the world’s second largest boiling lake. Dominica has many waterfalls, springs, and rivers. In Dominica‘s forests can be found some plants and animals thought to be extinct. The volcanic nature of the island and the lack of sandy beaches have made Dominica an amazing scuba diving spot.
This island country has many excellent diving spots due to its steep drop-offs, healthy marine environment, and reefs. Dominica has 365 rivers and is home to several protected areas, including Cabrits National Park. The capital of Dominica in the interesting Roseau. Beyond the capital, much of the Dominica is crearly rural.
Further inland are vistas reminiscent of the European alps, four of the Caribbean’s five highest peaks rise above the fertile lowlands around Santiago. Remote deserts extend through the southwest, giving the Dominica a complexity not found on other islands.
